Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Job Description
• Perform scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance on electrical and electronic
systems across the company fleet.
• Maintain electrical systems on excavators, cranes, trucks, generators, air compressors,
construction plant and light vehicles.
• Install, maintain and replace batteries, alternators, starters and associated electrical
components.
• Fault Diagnosis & Repair
• Diagnose and repair electrical faults involving charging systems, starting
• systems, wiring harnesses, lighting circuits, sensors and electronic control systems.
• Utilize OBD scan tools, diagnostic software, multi-meters and electrical testing equipment to
identify and rectify faults.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns in both workshop and field environments to minimize
downtime.
• Preventative Maintenance
• Conduct inspections and testing to identify potential electrical issues before failures occur.
• Recommend maintenance improvements to maximize equipment reliability and availability.
• Ensure preventative maintenance schedules are completed in accordance with company
requirements.
• Workshop & Field Support
• Maintain workshop tools, diagnostic equipment and work areas in a safe and organized
condition.
• Assist with mobilization and demobilization of equipment to project sites.
• Liaise with operators and supervisors regarding equipment performance and maintenance
requirements.
• Documentation & Reporting
• Complete service reports, maintenance records and repair documentation accurately.
• Record equipment history and electrical maintenance activities.
• Report equipment defects and maintenance recommendations to supervisors.
• Safety & Compliance
• Comply with all company safety policies, procedures and standards.
• Promote safe work practices and quality workmanship.
• Ensure all maintenance activities are completed safely and efficiently.
🎓 Qualifications
• Age Requirement: 25 – 45 years old
• Trade Certificate in Automotive Electrical Technology or equivalent.
• Vocational or Technical qualification from a recognised institution.
• Secondary or Higher Education Certificate.
• Relevant Trade Qualification Certificate.
• National Certificate (NC II or equivalent) where applicable. Experience
• Minimum 7 years experience as an heavy equipment mechanic
• Strong experience maintaining and repairing electrical systems on heavy mobile equipment.
• Experience working on earthmoving equipment, construction plant, trucks and light vehicles.
• Proven ability to diagnose and repair electrical and electronic faults.
• Experience using diagnostic software, OBD scan tools, multi-meters and electrical testing
equipment.
• Experience maintaining excavators, generators, air compressors and cranes.
• Experience working on mobile cranes, truck-mounted cranes or lifting equipment is highly
regarded.
• Experience with Komatsu, Kubota, Isuzu, Tadano, Grove, Sany or similar equipment is highly
regarded.
• Wit valid Drivers Licence.
